I have been making foldables for many years after I found Dinah Zike’s books for sale online. I own several of them and was so excited to see them used in textbooks, too. Here are few of the basic ones I do every year, and one new one I tried that is really fun.
Expressions
After seeing information on I Speak Math, I added the word “turn-around” to some of the phrases.
Order of Operations
Decimal Operations
Started making some pre-written instead of making the students write everything. I took some key words out.
Fraction Operations
And the coolest one of all, from the Fantastic Flexible Foldables, Integer Infinity Square by Carol DeFreese . There are some amazing ones at this website http://home.centurytel.net/cdefreese/foldables/. I took out some information…next time I will take out some more.
*****UPDATE 9-16-15 Looks like Carol DeFreese’s page is gone!!! I found a PDF of the foldable on my computer here: integers infinity foldable. Unfortunately, it has been a while since I last made it, so I hope you can figure it out from my pictures. Sorry! ALSO, I would edit the wording…not crazy about the whole war thing. I can’t remember if I put that in, or if it was on her foldable.
******UPDATE 10-29-15 Thanks Bev! Here is the new link: https://sites.google.com/site/carolsmathpage/home/paper-tools/integer-infinity-square
So Cool!!!!
Your integers foldable is cool! I like the happy/battle analogy.
The infinity square is really awesome! Thank you so much!
Nice!
How do I sign up to receive the latest copies of your blog?
Your entire blog, “Made 4 Math Monday – Foldables (Expressions, PEMDAS, Decimals,
Fractions and Integers)
The math foldables are really awesome!
Thanks!
DO you have any foldables on inequalities I could look at?
Hi! No inequalities foldable…sorry!
Hi, could you please clarify? Under Addition where it says “If we are different, we are at war,” both signs are still the same. They are both unhappy faces. The foldable is great, Ijust wanted to make sure that I understand it correctly.
I think both of them are frowning because they are both unhappy. It has been awhile and I can’t remember if I wrote that or it was already part of the foldable. Sorry!
The SIGNS of the numbers are different. They had to battle to see who wins out in the end. The sign that has the BIGGEST number will win in the end.
Could I get a copy of the integer foldable? It looks great. I tried the link, but it didn’t work. Thank you for your time.
okay…I will upload a copy.
Just uploaded it!
Hi – the integer infinity square website/link is not working. Do you have a version you could share?
